Post Malone, Jaden Smith, Tyla Yaweh @ Entertainment Centre, Adelaide 28/4/2019

They came on mass the the Adelaide Entertainment Centre with the line in sprawling down Port Road and for the side entrances the line was well back to Manton Street. Post Malone has built a cult like following and with a string a big chart singles it is no surprise that there a massive crowd in attendance bolstered by supports Jaden Smith and Tyla Yaweh. There was lots of hype in the lead up to this tour and most would agree Post Malone is hype worthy.

Opening act Tyla Yaweh burst out of the blocks bringing plenty of grunt and muscle to the show. The focus of his set was was on new album Heart Full Of Rage. Right after Who Shot Johnny Tyla did say “I’m super fucking lit” and asked the mosh to open the pit. Drugs & Pain was full throttle with Tyla again asking the mosh to open the pit and during the tribute to XXXtentacion was on the shoulders of a minder getting in and amongst it with the fans. Other highlights were High Right Now, Gemini and She Bad and leaving the stage he encourage the crowd to raise their middle finger and say fuck the rules, make sure you chase your dream.

Jaden Smith (whose famous Dad is Will Smith) has a massive following and that was abundantly clear here in Adelaide. Smith had been seen out and about in Adelaide leading up to the show including having a bite to eat at the Pancake Kitchen to hitting the waves at Middleton. His set had a strong leaning on his 2017 album Syre. There was no messing about during his tight set complete with visual projections to enhance the story behind the music with the theme of heart break resonating with the crowd. Songs of note included Icon, Batman and Beautiful Disruption from forthcoming album Eyres Is Coming.

It was almost a heroes welcome when Post Malone took to the stage. There’s no pulling back or moderating his performance smoking and drinking between songs and loading his set full of expletives not that it bothered anyone in the slightest despite the very young crowd.

One thing is for sure the take home message reinforced by Post Malone but was evident right through the night is “don’t let anyone stop you from being awesome” and despite all his knockers who is the one laughing now. Post Malone’s production was top shelf as was the sound. Early it was Too Young and Over Now. Malone welcomed the crowd saying he would be “playing the music stylings of Post Malone and getting fucked up”. The crowd knew all the words with a set full of chart singles. Better Now was great as was No Option and Sugar Wraith.

Right before Wow Post Malone said it was hot as fuck up there and that he was sweating bear. Psycho, 92 Explorer and I Fall Apart were big moments in the set as was cover of Return Of The Mack from the Seth Rogen Hilarity For Charity Netflix special.

Post Malone finished in a blaze of glory pulling out the big songs with Sunflower from Spider Man: Into The Spider Verse, Rockstar complete with the smashing of an acoustic guitar he played earlier and reminding the crowd again not to let anyone stand in your way from being awesome finishing on Congratulations which is an up yours to the knockers and naysayers.

Melbourne, you’re up next and judging by what we saw in Adelaide I wouldn’t be missing this one if you are contemplating the thought.
