Australia’s favourite and most successful country group, The McClymonts are returning to the road after a year off and they’re ready to kick it up in style on the Like We Used To National Tour, taking in NSW, VIC, QLD and SA to showcase songs from their best-selling new album Endless and all the favourites from their previous four albums.

Despite the break, Brooke, Sam and Mollie have been anything but quiet!  ‘Endless’ has reaffirmed their status as Australia’s pre-eminent country group, debuting at #1 on the ARIA Country Chart and #3 on the ARIA Albums Chart upon release and generating three smash hit singles – House, Don’t Wish It All Away and Like We Used To, after which the tour is named. On top of that, the girls took home three awards at the 2018 Golden Guitar Awards including the coveted Album of the Year, and Group of the Year at the recent CMC Awards. Mollie McClymont drops by to answer a few questions for Hi Fi Way: The Pop Chronicles.

Another massive year for The McClymonts, did you ever think that 2018 would have unfolded the way it has for the band?
Yes actually. Being mums and women who run our own business, we have put together a tour that works for all of us and our families. We now have to be super organised so we know way in advance what our schedules are going to look like.

How much does it mean winning awards such as the Golden Guitar Awards Album Of The Year and CMC Group Of The Year?
It means SO much as they are so hard to win! I must admit winning album of the year is the biggest award you can get, so I still pinch myself that we actually won it. We are so proud of our album Endless so being recognised with these awards is pretty special.

Do you feel as if the country music scene continues to grow and get even stronger?
Yes of course! Look at festivals such as CMC, Groundwater, and Gympie. They just get bigger every year. People are just realising how awesome country music is, something we have known our whole lives.

How much are you looking forward to getting back on the road for another massive tour?
We can’t wait! Touring is my favourite thing in our job, getting out on stage and meeting our fans is something ill never take for granted. We are very lucky.

Is it getting hard with the juggle of kids and family commitments?
Sometimes it can be tough, but like any working mum we just make it work. We have a tribe of people that help us out, husbands, our family and in laws.

Has it been a deliberate thing to play some smaller and more intimate venues?
Every venue we do is deliberate and thought out. It’s nice to do a mix of big and small.

Do you think the set list will be greatest hits and memories or leaning more to the new album?
The set list has a lot of the new album in it, but of course we throw in all of the fan favourites from the last four albums.

Is there a story behind the single Like We Used To?
We have all been with our husbands for a long time, so sometimes you think of when we first got together and remember how crazy and fun it was and you want to get back to that place. Everyone is still on happy great relationships, but we all have lots more responsibility’s now! Haha

Have there been many ideas floating around for another album?
We are very organised people, so of course 🙂

Beyond this tour what’s next for The McClymonts?
Another album, another tour and a few surprises along the way.
