This week in The Singles Bar #21, Hi Fi Way: The Pop Chronicles features:

Multi-platinum selling LA based Australian electro pop pioneers, PNAU have just unveiled the amazing psychedelic video for their latest single Changa accompanied by the release of five new remixes of the title track from their latest critically acclaimed album .. & they’re coming back home to celebrate!

Directed by Ben Kutsko from USA’s Miniac Films, the Changa video sees the creative direction of PNAU’s Nick Littlemore brought to life, once again starring vocalist and dancer Kira Divine. Heightening the aesthetic from previous releases Chameleon and Go Bang, the creative direction for Changa was to explore the conscious and unconscious world of DMT – a journey back and forth through slowed reality to hazy deep dream state, through to a full blown visual collision of mind and body. Changa is the latest single lifted from PNAU’s album of the same name, following the triple platinum, ARIA Award-winning smash Chameleon and the double platinum Go Bang, which is currently sitting at No.1 on the Dance airplay chart in America.

Courtney Barnett shares Sunday Roast, the fourth taste from her highly anticipated and already acclaimed album Tell Me How You Really Feel which is out now.

Sunday Roast (which was given a very special limited release on 12” alongside City Looks Pretty to celebrate Record Store Day last month) follows on from the focused fury of Nameless, Faceless, the gorgeously contemplative Need a Little Time, and most recently the propulsive guitar mastery of the aforementioned City Looks Pretty. Sunday Roast is the beautiful album closer, an ode to friendship and simple pleasures, the perfect conclusion to a rich and complex record.

Northlane have released their brand new video for Heartmachine. Lifted from their recent album Mesmer, Heartmachine is the final video in the Mesmer collection, and its existence was alluded to in the album trailer that was released right before the surprise album drop.

A deeply personal song about the human condition, Heartmachine was directed by Jason Eshraghian and it premiered on Apple Music this week.

Frontman Marcus Bridge explains: “Heartmachine is a song about pain, heartbreak and loss. When the heart wants to heal and move forward, anxiety and depression work like a machine to drag you down again and again. I wrote this song in the studio after feeling low for months about a relationship that had fallen apart on top of other personal issues. I almost immediately felt a weight lifted off my chest when I started to release that pain through this song. As I let go of my heartbreak, represented through my relationship with the female character in the music video, my strength grows and I’m finally able to control my power at the end of it all.”

Ahead of the release of St. Leonards and their headline tour kicking off this Friday, Melbourne’s Slowly Slowly have unveiled their next single Ten Leaf Clover.

Following on from their hit Alchemy, Ten Leaf Clover is Slowly Slowly narrating the search for happiness, where seeking something wholesome in the most unwholesome place and staying optimistic is a hard task to bear.

“This song is about searching for true connection in an age where it seems so hard to find. It’s a modern-day love story — Romeo & Juliet, but with the internet,” explains frontman Ben Stewart. “It was initially inspired by my friend Anna Jay’s voice, I heard her sing and could hear this little duet brewing in my head. I threw a bunch of experiences of my own and of my closest friends into a mixing pot to try and detail the difficulties of remaining honest and hopeful in what can be a pretty demoralising quest.

“I came up with the video concept while running and listening to the song, I had my arms out wide kind of moving them like I was a kid pretending to be a plane and I was like, ‘rollerskates. Yes. Rollerskates.’. We reached out to Nicole Slovak to be in the clip after seeing some of her amazing performances – she had this sense of grace and sadness, a considered confidence that was really captivating. It all came together way too easily.”

Following the release of her UK Top 3 and ARIA Top 20 debut album Speak Your Mind, Anne-Marie is delighted to unveil her official video for her new single 2002 .

Directed by Hannah Lux Davis (Ariana Grande & The Weeknd Love Me Harder, Marshmello & Anne-Marie FRIENDS) and with Anne-Marie referencing some of her favourite anthems from the early noughties throughout the track, the official video pays a tongue-in-cheek homage to the accompanying, iconic official videos to the respective anthems: Britney Spears’ …Baby One More Time, N-Sync’s Bye Bye Bye, Jay-Z’s 99 Problems and Nelly’s Ride Wit Me.

Money For Rope are excited to release the companion video for their brand-new single Earl Grey. Filmed on the beach at the Victorian coastal town of Sorrento, the band recorded the underwater shots themselves, with the drone footage taken by Denyer Bech McCauley.

Canada’s finest hardcore/punk outfit, COMEBACK KID, have released brand new music in the form of the 2 track single Beds Are Burning. The single includes the band’s cover of the MIDNIGHT OIL classic, as well as previously unreleased track Little Soldier which came together during the Outsider sessions. Make sure to watch the visualiser for Beds Are Burning in its full length,

Commented singer Andrew Neufeld: “We recorded the ‘Beds Are Burning’ cover on a whim, while recording our last record. I saw the video at a bar and it got me inspired to text and try to convince the band into doing it. It went over well so here we are with a new cover and another new song called ‘Little Soldier’ which I thought might have more legs if we released it as a single as opposed to a track 9 on a full length. Its a bit of a different vibe for COMEBACK KID and a song that I had a lot of fun writing. Our label is putting it out digitally and we pressed the 7 inches so for the first time CBK have been pressing our own music. Limited to 500 copies and only selling live and maybe through a couple of friends. We’re playing it by ear if we will press more. This was a fun collaborative project.”

Australian dynamic pop duo Client Liaison has today revealed their brand new single Survival in the City. Client Liaison says of the track – “Survival in the City is a phrase we’ve had kicking round for some time. Its ties into our core themes addressing the fast pace of corporate culture. It’s about living the grind and chasing the struggle, where the city is an eternal lure for a life bigger, faster and greater”.

After releasing their album Diplomatic Immunity in late 2016, Client Liaison made thunderous appearances at 2017’s Splendour in the Grass and Lost Paradise and undertook two sold national headline tours of Australia, along with a UK/European tour. Client Liaison has become iconic for enhancing their music with their inherent sense of style through custom designed costumes for their electric live shows and an ongoing commitment to their eclectic daywear wardrobe.

ALICE IN CHAINS (vocalist/guitarist Jerry Cantrell, drummer Sean Kinney, bassist Mike Inez and vocalist/guitarist William DuVall) has released The One You Know, their first new track in five years!!

The One You Know is the first track from the band’s upcoming album, their first for new label home BMG. Cantrell discussed the much-anticipated album in a recent interview, saying, “It’s a record we haven’t done yet, but it’s also a record that has all the elements of anything you would expect from us. It’s got our fingerprint. And we’re really proud of the material we wrote and the performances we captured. There’s some really heavy sh*t, some really ugly stuff, some really beautiful stuff, some weirdo trippy sh*t…it’s good.” As for the span between albums, he adds, “We wait until we’re ready and until we have material that’s up to the Alice In Chains standard and then we do what we do. This is the racket we make when we get together.”

GRAMMY® Award-nominated critically acclaimed singer, songwriter GALLANT has released his first official single of 2018 Doesn’t Matter. It paves a path for the arrival of the artist’s second full-length album – one of the most anticipated offerings of 2018.

Above stark production, tempered by echoes of cinematic synths, Doesn’t Matter highlights the expanse of Gallant’s vibe and vision. It climaxes on an immediately irresistible hook emblematic of his uncanny ability to leave a lasting imprint.

GRAMMY, Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning recording artist, actor and producer Childish Gambino has hit #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart with his poignant song and its captivating video, This Is America.

Released during his hosting and performing stint on Saturday Night Live two weeks ago, the powerful video for This Is America has been viewed over 110 million times worldwide.

Liam Payne has today revealed the video for his new single Familiar with J Balvin.
Payne sizzles in this sexy, groove-laden clip, the perfect backdrop to the song’s throwback RnB club meets Latino sound. Liam appears on the record alongside J Balvin – one of Colombia’s biggest musical exports and the 7th most-streamed artist of all time on Spotify – who lends his inimitable reggaeton-infused vocals to this track. The single, out now on EMI Music Australia, will feature on Liam’s highly anticipated debut album, due for release later this year.

Continuing to expand their sound and revel in musical texture, Melbourne’s Pretty City present the latest example of their boisterous creativity with new single Same As Before. Taken from the band’s sophomore album Cancel the Future, this new cut from Pretty City is a shot of glistening rock, delivered straight to that spot in the heart of every music fan who thrives on crashing guitars and irresistible melodies.

Centred around themes of personal change or a persistent strive for altering things that ultimately might not eventuate, Same As Before displays a more introspective facet of Pretty City’s songwriting. A perfect example of how Cancel the Future utilises tone and different musical shades, Same As Before has proven to be a hit with live crowds, as the band has brought the album to rooms in the US, Australia and Europe since its release in March.

Where their debut album Colourize was unleashed, drenched in acid tinged psych-rock flair back in 2016, Cancel the Future has Pretty City in a creative space where vibrancy and unadulterated sonic indulgence has been embraced with open arms.

‘She’s gonna cause you so much drama…’ It’s a sultry warning from songwriter Hen, delivered with confidence, on her new single In Red. The latest from the Adelaide artist is an empowering pop tune that celebrates strong women while breaking down the stereotypes surrounding the ‘hot girl’.

‘The Woman in Red’ is an image that has been used throughout various decades of music, film and pop culture to exoticise and fetishise women – it’s the associated image with sexuality and an unapologetic ownership of feminine sensuality that once would have painted a woman as a harlot or any kind of manipulative. Now, these traits are ones of strength, traits that Hen has brought to record with her new music.

Vocally seductive, In Red has a touch of X-era Kylie Minogue, while the instrumentation ensures that the song never veers from fun and catchy territory.
