With a full house for a 6:30pm session on Friday night 1st March I couldn’t contain my excitement. Tonight was the Hans: If You Don’t Love Me Leave show. I saw Hans last year and enjoyed the show so naturally I had to see him again. This year’s show was, by the self described “International Superstar, Sex Symbol and accordionist” and yes we do agree with those titles, a homage to all things Aussie. YAASSSS!!!! We love our inner Aussie boganess and this show was right up our alley! Hans tonight was about to “Advance Australia’s Flair”.
Starting off with a video paying tribute to the good ole Aussie VB commercial Hans, he already had us in hysterics with his own unique version. Then from behind the audience he made his grand entrance and that was the start of the fun, song and dance and far from politically correct humour. Hans was certainly in the air belting out his version of Love Is in the Air.
Not that it was too difficult but Hans certainly made sure we were all paying attention. Picking out the lovely mature aged Barry from the audience, he would be the focus and “butt” of all jokes throughout the show. Barry you were a great sport and we loved you!
Paying tribute to his “adopted” country he sang a mashup and tribute to all the classic Aussie songs from INXS, Jimmy Barnes, Divinyls, Sia and much, much more! His interaction with the audience is pure gold and his quick witted responses leave you in stitches. During each song he also threw in a few one liners that brought a roar of laughter from all in The Octagon tent at Gluttony. Nothing was off limits. From the Catholic Church to Rolf Harris which was the perfect segway to the Dragon classic song Are You Old Enough.
It’s not a Hans show without the Piano Accordion so it was inevitable to include the iconic Kylie song I Should Be So Lucky in true Hans “German” style. He took requests from the audience and of course someone shouted “Sing The Horses”. After a huge sigh of “Uuuuggggh” he reluctantly he sang it and it was another classic Hans version.
There are so many highlights to this show it’s impossible to mention them all and they are best left for you to enjoy and experience when you go see it. It’s a show full of glitter, colourful costumes, the dancing girls Lucky Bitches, dazzling choreography and aerial acrobatics that would rival Pink…well maybe not but damn it was hilarious!
Just when we thought the show was finished it kept on going as Hans whipped out his accordion once again to treat us to the iconic Moving Pictures song What About Me. No description is really necessary. Just go see the show, Darlings! Really I can’t say it enough – go see his show! You will be up dancing, cheering and singing along with those Aussie classics with full force.
Hans is on glittery fire!
