Australia’s favourites Jebediah affectionately known as ‘The Jebs’ are set to rock the north for an exclusive FREE concert at the 2018 Salisbury Secret Garden. There’s no denying the awesomeness of Jebediah with a career spanning more than 20 years, including five albums and ten hits in Triple J’s Hottest 100. The Salisbury Secret Garden – the Northern Hub of the Adelaide Fringe – promises to be the best yet with all the action of the 10-day event featuring Jebediah. Chris Daymond answers a few quick questions for Hi Fi Way: The Pop Chronicles.

Are you finding that the Jebs are really enjoying just playing shows together with no real pressure/expectation now?
Yes, I guess that’s one way to look at it. It is certainly a well-earned luxury for a band to be able to perform a set where each song is as enthusiastically received as the one before it. I’m sure that we can appear as one giant collective smile at times.

Do you notice a younger group of fans coming to the shows now?
Ha! I haven’t noticed this… no. I quite like seeing that our most dedicated fans have grown older too. Age is no limitation to being a “jebs tragic”.

A Day On The Green/ Fist Full Of Rock was a great tour and the Jebs were a real highlight for me just seeing the band having a truckload of fun, how good were those tours?
Well I don’t want to seem boastful but when we’re playing at some of Australia’s better winery venues with fantastic crew, on a super solid bill, to an impressive and appreciative crowd, whilst being catered for with all our favourite riders… it doesn’t get much better, does it!? It really is the ducks nuts.

Has the band thought much about what’s next? An album? A big tour? More of the same?
I think that we all have our own ideas as to what might be next for our band but at the moment there are no concrete plans. New material is always exciting and I don’t think it’ll be too long before we are back in the workshop.

How do you find it might sound now? Is there a certain direction musically where you would like to take Jebediah?
If you couldn’t already tell, I think it’s honest to admit that Jebediah is a band that operates within a well established game plan. In many ways it’s this “comfort factor” that allows us to enjoy longevity in this industry. Whichever direction feels best is usually the one we choose. If throwing the comforting game plan out the window is the new direction for us then it’s anyone’s guess as to what we’ll do next!

What’s next for Jebediah?
A concept album about concept albums.
